Fenix nodded. "Bet that's infuriating."

"It is." She said, picking up a stick again and tracing shapes in the loose dirt. "I wouldn't lie about anything so dangerous, or even joke."

Luc watched them from the shaddows, wondering what they were talking about. He'd heard mention of Voldemort, but other than that he was too far away to hear clearly.

"I'd hope not," Fenix replied somewhat seriously. "I certainly don't think you would."

Lily sighed and began to draw a gryffin. "What were you doing out here, anyway?" She asked, it had suddenly come across her mind that she'd explained her presence. "Just on a walk?"

Fenix gave her a funny look. "I told you, I was trying to get away from the Malfoys," he answered.

That didn't wornk, now did it? he thought smugly as he moved a little closer. He would have cursed them but he wanted to hear what they were talking about... probably plotting against him and his family and that Dorcas guy...

Lily smiled. "I forgot. Sorry. But the best place for that is probably off grounds or in the common room. Out here?" She looked around at the bushes and trees. "Anything can happen." She sighed and looked back at her picture again. "Isn't it interesting? A gryffin's worst fear is only a snake."

"Yeah, it is, now that you mention it," he agreed, watching her draw.

Luc didn't feel like thinking of how many ways that statement applied to the current situation, only that the gryffin had a very good reason to fear the snake.

Lily looked at it again, drawing a snake. "The little thing is so slippery and evil, it eats the young Gryffin eggs and goes after the grown ones with more excitement." She looked harder at the picture, seeing not the gryffin and snake but her father and Malfoy.

Fenix watched her, wondering what she really saw in the drawing. The snake was probably a Malfoy, but who was the gryffin? Her father? Herself? Or someone else? "You're a very good artist," he commented, wondering what he himself saw in the sketch.

"Thanks." She said quietly. Her green eyes looked intently at the picture, never wavering her gaze upon it.

It eats the young Gryffin eggs and goes after the grown ones with more excitement... how easily he applied that statement to his family. His father, the snake, torturing his mother, the Gryffin, and himself, the egg... he looked away as memories began to resurface, memories he'd tried to bury ever since he'd gotten away from his father...

Lily shook her head and messed her picture up. She'd seen things too. "Anyway..." She said, wanting to think about something else. Anything else.
